Funeral services for Frederic W. Jacobs, 97, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend D. Nick Sholars officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Jacobs was born October 25, 1917 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of Frederic Burnham Jacobs of Hingham, Massachusetts and Mary Armina Price of Bridgeport, Alabama. He died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. Jacobs had resided in Lufkin for many years. He was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, his ancestor being Elder William Brewster. He belonged to the Nathan Gann Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in Lufkin, and more recently the Texas Society of the War of 1812. He graduated from Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939 with a BS Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He worked for the Lake City Malleable Company in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. He had an occupational deferment during World War II and was Plancor Engineer who helped design, equip, and build the Lake City Malleable, Inc. in Ashtabula, Ohio, a modernized mechanized foundry built and paid for by the U.S. Government to make castings for the war effort in 1944. He was Chief Metallurgist and later Technical Director for Texas Foundries, Inc. until his retirement in 1983. He was very active in professional and civic affairs. He was an active Kiwanian, having served as Distinguished President of the Lufkin Club, and later as Distinguished Lt. Governor of Division 14 of the Texas Oklahoma District. During retirement he coordinated many projects of rebuilding exhibits at the Ellen Trout Zoo and in 2002 was given an Award of Appreciation by the City of Lufkin for that effort. He was also very active in the First United Methodist Church in Lufkin where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and as Chairman of the Education and Council on Ministries Committees. Jacobs pursued many hobbies. He was a member of the Angelina Photographic Society and the Lufkin Art Guild and won many ribbons for his macro-photography of flowers. He was an ardent stamp collector. He was an active genealogist and was a member of the Angelina Genealogy Society. He pursued a lifelong dream and built an impressive HO gauge model railroad in his home for which he was recognized in a feature article in the local newspaper. Survivors include his wife, Honora M. Jacobs of Lufkin; sons, Frederic C. Jacobs of Denver, Colorado, Gary N. “Jonathan” Jacobs of Austin, and Philip Joseph Jacobs of Pioneer, Tennessee; grandson, Loren Jacobs of Austin; granddaughters, Keturah Christmas and Anja Jacobs of Austin; great-granddaughter, Alessandra Christmas of Austin; great-grandsons, Jasper Christmas and Finley Porter Jacobs of Austin; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Loren Jacobs, Patrick Christmas, Lawrence Sparks, Tom Paxton, Thomas Moore and Fred Preston. Honorary pallbearer will be Perry Huff.
