Funeral services for John W. Hooper, Sr., 78, of Corrigan will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Robert Lankford officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Wheeler Cemetery, in the Wakefield Community of Polk County, under the auspices of the Corrigan Masonic Lodge #1103 A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Hooper was born April 8, 1936 in Angelina County, Texas to John Wylie and Mellie (Wheeler) Hooper, and died Thursday, March 12, 2015 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hooper resided in Corrigan most of his life. He retired from the A&NR Railroad following 40 years as an Engineer, and was the caretaker of Wheeler Cemetery for at least 15 years. He was an avid deer hunter. Mr. Hooper was a mason with the Corrigan Masonic Lodge #1103 A.F. & A.M., and a member of Wakefield Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Williams of North Carolina; sister, Bessie Andrews of Diboll; best friend, Tracy Hendry, Sr. of Diboll; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera Hooper; daughter, Pamela Hooper; son, John Wayne Hooper, Jr.; brother, L.D. Hooper; and sister, Doris Nell Leonard.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
