L. Artis Morris

Funeral services for L. Artis Morris, 97, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pat Jones, Ralph Fair and Hershel Bearden officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Morris was born June 6, 1917 in De Ridder, Louisiana to Claude Pruett and Loney (Slaydon) Pruett and died Sunday, March 8, 2015 in a local nursing home. She had resided in Lufkin since 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Angelina Church of Christ. She devoted her adult life to being a helpmate to her husband as a preacher’s wife, and a servant to the many congregations he served. Survivors include daughters, Juanita Bridges and husband Buddy of Lufkin, Jo Ellen Farabee of Cherokee, Linda Sirkel and husband Jay of San Antonio; son, Larry Thomas and wife Darlene of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verdell “Dock” Morris; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; grandsons, Randy Bridges and Mark Farabee; and sons-in-law, Sterling Harold Squyres and Quinn Farabee. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Morris’ grandsons and great-grandsons. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Castle Pines Health & Rehabilitation Center for their love and support, and to Dr. Karnati and Dr. Bachireddy and their staff for the exceptional care they provided to Mrs. Morris. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
