Funeral services for Patsy Ann Bresie, 72, of Birmingham, Michigan, formerly of Lufkin and Baytown, will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Reverend Brian Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow the services.
Mrs. Bresie passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. She was born in Malvern, Arkansas to the late Chester and Freddie Mae (Dickson) Sherwood October 31, 1942. (Needless to say, Halloween was her favorite holiday!)
Mrs. Bresie retired after more than 30 years as a school teacher for the Barbers Hill School District, where she taught 4th grade science. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and received her master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. She was very active in her younger years with the Girl Scouts of America, where she achieved the rank of Wing Scout and was an Ambassador to Mexico. She was extremely creative and artistic, and showed her talents through watercolor painting and decorating. She enjoyed nature and being outdoors, including going camping and tending her gardens. She also loved animals and especially liked it when her students would bring in different kinds of animals/pets to her classroom. In her later years, she enjoyed researching her ancestry and traveling.
She was the beloved wife of the late Mike Bresie (deceased August 31, 2008), the couple married July 10, 1965 in Lufkin; loving mother of Camille (Mark) Cooke; proud grandmother of Theodore and Oliver; dear sister of Bob (Jane) Sherwood, the late Billy Sherwood and the late Dickie Sherwood; sister-in-law of Sandra Sherwood and Jack (Donna) Bresie; niece of Josephine "Jo" (the late James E.) Sherwood and the late Alleene (the late Aubrey L.) Banks (A special note, Aunt Alleene and Mr. B. raised Patsy from a very early age.); aunt of Cindy (Jeff) Taylor, Susanne (David) Lively, Lesa (Ray) McMains and Jackie (Carole) Bresie; cousin of Ronnie (Roxy) Sherwood, D.D.S. and Donnie (Teresa) Sherwood; also survived by many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
