Henry "O.H." Boggs

Funeral services for Henry “O.H.” Boggs, 88, of Burke, will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Tom Slye officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. Boggs was born March 14, 1926 in Pasadena, Texas to the late Clara (Weidemeier) and Eugene Devotie Boggs. He died Thursday, February 19, 2015 in a Lufkin nursing facility. Mr. Boggs was a retired boiler operator for Shell Oil, following more than 30 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of Burke United Methodist Church. Mr. Boggs was a master craftsman and loved to build things and tinker in his shop. He loved to watch the hay grow and he loved his tree farm, “The Mosley Place.” He enjoyed wildlife and loved to hunt. Mr. Boggs loved people and to tell jokes. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Charlie Harris of Pollok; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Jackie Boggs of Diboll, Gene and Carol Boggs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren and spouses, Jessica Gilzow of Austin, Gabe and Sandy Gilzow of Chester, Amy and Tom Slye of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Aaron and Nicole Boggs of Kissimmee, Florida, Misty Boggs of Burke, Stephen “Buck” and April Boggs of Lufkin, Ryan Schneider of Cedar Rapids, and Seth and Keather Harris of Wichita Falls; thirteen great grandchildren; cousins, Joy Boggs of Mulvane, Kansas, and Winnie Pease of Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Boggs was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Wanda Bennett Boggs and Estell Parrish Boggs; and sisters, Helen, Norma, Amye and Gene. Pallbearers will be Gabe Gilzow, Buck Boggs, Seth Harris, Aaron Boggs, Ryan Schneider, Joe Bob Thigpen, Charlie Harris, John Pollard, Jordan Guillory and David Guillory. Honorary pallbearer is John Griffin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Burke United Methodist Church, 124 Blue Jay St., Diboll, Texas 75941. The family wishes to thank Larkspur and Hospice in the Pines for the care given to Mr. Boggs. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
