Funeral services for Virginia Sue Deaton, 81, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Pastor Randy Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Deaton was born June 15, 1933 in Mt. Calm, Texas to the late Floyd Colly and Effie (Kent) Doherty. She passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin. Sue married Bill Deaton while he was in the United States Air Force stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Upon his discharge, they moved to Fort Worth, Irving, and then to Lufkin in 1969. She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age, and spent the rest of her years serving Him. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and involved in the Women’s Missionary Union. Missions was her passion. In addition to her husband of 63 years, she has left behind, until we shall see her again, her children, Susan and Andy Johnson of Lufkin, Sherri and Steve Dent of Lufkin, David and Kaye Deaton of De Berry, and Melinda and Larry Brevard of Lufkin; grandchildren, Cory and Kelly Johnson, Angi Tindall, Jessica Johnson and fiancé Roy Nolan, Dena and Russell Strban, Weldon Dent, Cristy and Justin Woodland, Colly Deaton, Jonathan Deaton, Kyle Deaton, Matthew and Meagan Brevard, Katie and Ryan Lawrence, Kelli Brevard; great grandchildren, Jacob Tindall, Drew Tindall, Daniel Espinoza, Lilly Nolan, Deaton Johnson, Parker Johnson, Rylee Lawrence, Carter Lawrence, Tom Brevard; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Doherty and Joy Deaton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Others who have gone on before her besides her parents include her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ira W. Deaton; brothers, TSgt. F.C. Doherty and Dr. Bill Doherty; sister, Nelda Chamblee; and great grandson, Luis Espinoza. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church for the Missions Programs, P.O. Box 571, Lufkin, Texas 75902. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
