Funeral services for Billie J. Smith, 84, of Lufkin will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stephen Lantis officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Smith was born February 16, 1930 in Bedias, Texas to A.G. Colburn, Sr. and Myrtle Lucille (Thomas) Colburn, and died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in a local nursing home from complications of an auto-pedestrian accident.

Mrs. Smith had resided in Lufkin most of her life. She was a teacher and had worked at Peter Pan Kindergarten. She had previously worked as a telephone operator for Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange. Mrs. Smith was an artist, painter and crafter, and enjoyed traveling, sewing and cooking. She was a member of First Christian Church of Lufkin all of her life.

Survivors include her husband, C.A. Smith of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Smith and Sid Johnson of Lufkin; son, Steve Smith of Lufkin; grandson, Wesley Bryant of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister, Faye Barnhill of Crockett; sisters-in-law, Charlcye Colburn, Rita Beth Johnson and Joyce DuBose; brother-in-law, Glenn Smith and wife Jackie; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, A.G. Colburn, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Claude Welch, Kevin Adams, Randy Stewart, Kasey Johnson, Wesley Bryant, Gary Colburn, Randy DuBose and Scott Gilmore.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Medford Sunday school class at First Christian Church of Lufkin.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1300 South First Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or to Christian Information and Service Center, 501 South Angelina Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Karnati and his staff, and to the staff at Castle Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center.
