John William Sanborn, former resident of Sedan, Kansas and Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully January 29, 2015 at his home in Lufkin, Texas.
Born June 10, 1949 in Scott City, Kansas, he was the son of Donald Lee Sanborn and Mary Eldena Cornelson Sanborn. He graduated from Sedan High School in 1967.
On May 27, 1994 he married Candy L. Parkison in Newkirk, Oklahoma.
John worked many years in road construction then went to work for KG&E, retiring in 1997.
John was an old cowboy and raised, trained, showed and bred registered quarter horses for many years. His happiest moments were spent in the saddle and he passed his love and knowledge of horses on to his children. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Candy, of the home; five daughters, Lanette Sanborn, Linda Sanborn and husband Todd Margaitis of Grapevine, TX, Lynn Sporleder and husband Rodney of Derby, KS, Jamie Lee of Ponca City, OK, Raina Barrett and husband Shane of Huntington, TX; son, Ryan Rush and wife Auburn of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Cheryl Hurst and husband Terry of Pawhuska, OK and Carol Blair and husband Tom of Waldorf, MD; stepbrothers, Don Brown of Emporia, KS and David Brown of Powell, WY; stepsister, Pat Brown of Emporia, KS; sisters-in-law, Karen Kail and Liz Ramsey and husband Jim; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Bob Parkison and Ross Kail.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church in Sedan, Kansas, officiated by Paul Stetz.
