Leroy Lawrence Patterson

Funeral services for Leroy Lawrence Patterson, 89, of Huntington will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Lamar Denby and Brother Van Johnson officiating. Mr. Patterson was born November 6, 1925 in Gladewater, Texas to Lawrence J. and Mary Alice (Brown) Patterson, and died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. Patterson attended Groveton High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1943. He trained in San Diego, New Orleans, Camp Wallace, Galveston, and Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Patterson served in Cuba, Panama, and England on the USS Helena. He was awarded the Victory and American Theater Ribbons. Mr. Patterson was an electrician at Southland Paper Mill for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Lufkin Lions Club. He was always known for his independence. Mr. Patterson was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Daisy Marie of Huntington; daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Van Johnson of Lufkin, Brenda Patterson Bridges of Pollok, and Rhonda and James Thompson of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Nila Patterson of Lufkin, John and Sandra Patterson of Nacogdoches, and Roy and Diece Patterson of Shelbyville; stepson and wife, Weldon and Rachel Smith of Huntington; stepdaughters and husbands, Daisy and Dennis Oehler of Lufkin, Susie and John Catalina of College Station, and Kim and Larry Underhill of Mesquite; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Nina; and brother, J.C. Patterson. Pallbearers will be Mr. Patterson’s grandsons. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
