Floyd Franklin Peters, Jr.

Funeral services for Floyd Franklin Peters, Jr., 63, of Zavalla will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Jackson Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mr. Peters was born September 23, 1951 in Beaumont, Texas to Peggy Faye (Burrows) and Floyd F. Peters, Sr., and died Monday, January 5, 2015 in a Nacogdoches hospital.

Mr. Peters had resided in Zavalla for 33 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years and was a member of the I.U.O.O.E. Local 450 for 15 years.

Mr. Peters loved Alaska and lived there 10 years helping build the Alaskan pipeline. He loved listening to soul and R&B music, especially Otis and Aretha, while standing around his fire pit with a beautiful full moon. His most special times were spent with his grandson, Brenton hunting and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Wandy Kay Peters of Zavalla; sons, David Wayne Peters, William “Darrell” Peters, both of Zavalla, and Justin Gilliland and wife Kalynda of Round Rock; daughter, Shanna K. Peters Johnson and husband Brent of Huntington; grandchildren, Eric, Jadyn, Hannah, Haley, Heather, Brenton, Dylan, Hadlee, Emma, Tinlee, River and Tucker; mother, Peggy Faye Peters of Zavalla; aunt and uncle, Cheryl and Ronnie Breaux of Nacogdoches; uncle and aunt, Phillip and Stacey Burrows of Beaumont; cousin who was like a brother, Lil George Cryer, Jr., his wife, Sheila, and their daughter, Shelby of Zavalla; special friend, Michael “Sugar” Jordy of Zavalla; and numerous cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd F. Peters, Sr.; and special buddy, Allen Cryer.

Pallbearers will be Lil George Cryer, Michael “Sugar” Jordy, Wild Bill Stuart, Craig Cryer, Eric Peters and Tracy Blair.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brenton Peters, Dylan Peters, David Jordy, Sr., Kim Kinney and Timmy Jordy.

The family extends special thanks to the Nacogdoches Medical Center ICU nurses and staff for their excellent care of Mr. Peters.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
