Doris Rose Hinson

Funeral services for Doris Rose “Dry” Hinson, 93, of Lufkin will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Aubrey Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hinson was born December 19, 1920 in Lufkin, Texas to Hobson C. Yancy and Vennie (McMullen) Yancy, and died Saturday, November 15, 2014 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Hinson was a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School, SAM Fellowship and many other activities of the church. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, a sewing club, and Angelina Sam’s Camping Chapter for many years. She enjoyed crafts, camping, traveling and doing things for others. She made small pillows and gave them to the Hospice and rehabilitation units in the hospitals, plus anyone she knew in the hospital. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bob Williams of Wicomico Church, Virginia, Sue and Phillippe Bohn of Portland, Texas; grandchildren, Paige and Dennis Williams of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Julie and Eric Madsen of Houston, Jason Guin of Austin, Jimmy and Kimberly Bohn of Elgin; great-grandchildren, Sofia Bohn and Said Bohn, both of Elgin; Annelise Claire Madsen and Caroline Rose Madsen, both of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert James Hinson on September 8, 2009, and by her parents and two brothers.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
