Funeral services for Archie Ray Pike, 84, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Whittemore and Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Mixon Cemetery. Mr. Pike was born January 28, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas to Willie Legrant Pike and Jessie Mae (Cook) Pike, and died Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas. He was in the motion picture industry for 46 years, serving as a projectionist, assistant manager and City Manager of theatres, and in charge of theatres in Lufkin and Nacogdoches for 20 years. He was later employed by Polk Oil Co. for 11 years in sales and public relations. He worked for Gipson Funeral Home for 9 years. He completed his working years as a Funeral Director’s Assistant with Carroway Funeral Home. Mr. Pike served in the Korean Conflict with the 25th Signal Co. of the 25th Division as combat photographer, lab technician and instructor on movie projectors. In past years he was active in the local Chamber of Commerce, United Way Fund, Boy Scouts, and Little League baseball coach for 10 years. He was active in church activities, ministries, and committees and Sunday School teacher for 58 years, from junior to senior adults. He served as a deacon for more than 35 years and as a lay minister. He was a Rotarian for 42 years serving on several committees and projects in Lufkin, and club secretary for 41 years. He was awarded 3 Paul Harris Fellows awards. He was raised and schooled in Jacksonville, Texas. He married Patty Myrl (Pat) Langston on Feb. 5, 1951. He stated “I can humbly admit that my life has been to serve my God, family, country, Rotary, friends and mankind. What a blessing to serve my Lord for the past 70 years”. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Pamlea Pike of Round Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Raye and John Whittemore of Huntington, and Donna Gail and Steve Clifton of Central Heights; grandsons and wives, Jason and Melody Whittemore of Huntington, Jonathan and Shana Whittemore of McLeod, Jacob and Michelle Clifton of Gainesville, Virginia, Joshua and Cheyenne Pike of Humble; grandson, Joseph Clifton of Central Heights; granddaughters, Ashley Michelle Pike of Lufkin, Makayla Juaneene Pike of Round Rock; great grandchildren, Cole and Maggie Whittemore, both of Huntington, Kason and Kelton Pike, both of Humble, Kyle and Kaitlyn Clifton, both of Gainesville, Virginia, Abigail Bumstead of Lufkin and Jude Whittemore of McLeod. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Legrant Pike and Jessie Mae (Cook) Pike; wife, Patty Myrl “Pat” (Langston) Pike; brother, James Pike; younger sister Cloyce Watson, and twin sister Willie Mae Bailey. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Whittemore, Jason Whittemore, Jacob Clifton, Joshua Pike, Joseph Clifton, Billy Langston and Colt Bumstead. Honorary pallbearers will be J. W. Byars, Fred Mattsonbocher, Steve McComb, Ron McMullen and Jack Gray. The family extends special thanks to the Larkspur staff and Hospice in the Pines staff for their caring and attentive care of Mr. Pike.
