Funeral services for Dorothy Lankford Beene, 90, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Billy Stevens officiating. Interment will be in Walker Cemetery. Mrs. Beene was born June 17, 1924 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Mattie (Brookshire) and Harvey J. Lankford. She died Friday, October 31, 2014 in a Lufkin nursing facility. Mrs. Beene was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She had also previously worked for J.C. Penney’s for seven years. Mrs. Beene was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, and had resided in Lufkin all her life. Survivors include her son, Edward T. Beene of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mark Kirkland of Big Springs; grandson, Gregory Todd Beene of Ravenna, Ohio; sister, Willie M. (Billie) Loving of Bald Hill; sisters-in-law, Marie Lankford and Willie Lankford; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. “Butch” Beene; infant son, Gregory L. Beene; grandson, Matthew Moss; brothers, Thomas Lankford, A.J. Lankford, Kenneth Lankford, and Larry Lankford; and sister, Linda Phieffer. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart To Heart Hospice, 209 Christie, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home prior to the service.
