Graveside services for Collie H. Edgar, 96, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cleveland City Cemetery with Reverend Patty Bergfield officiating.
Mr. Edgar was born November 23, 1917 in San Leon, Texas to John Wallace and Minnie L. (Hubler) Edgar, and died Monday, October 27, 2014 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Shepherd, Mr. Edgar had resided in Lufkin 14 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from Continental Airlines where he was an airplane mechanic for 27 years. Mr. Edgar was an outdoorsman, and loved hunting, woodworking, and making walking canes. He was great at fixing anything. Mr. Edgar was a former member of the Shepherd United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Michael Bennett of Frankston; grandson and wife, Matthew and Lisa Bennett of Flower Mound; great-grandchildren, Brenden, Madison and McKenzie Bennett; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Young of Cleveland; nephews, Jeff Young of Humble, and Wes Young and wife Kathy of Thicket; great-niece, Jennifer Young; and great-nephew, Justin Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Earline Young Edgar; brother, Frederick “Fred” Edgar; sister, Marie Stratton; and brother-in-law, Robert W. “Moon” Young.
Memorial contributions may be made to the PineCrest Retirement Benevolent Trust, 1302 Tom Temple Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
Those wanting to honor this wonderful outdoorsman and hunter are welcome to wear camouflage to the service. Others are to feel comfortable dressing regularly.
