Funeral services for Edward Phillips, Jr., 89, of Lufkin will be held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery. Mr. Phillips was born April 26, 1925 in Leesville, Louisiana to Ruby Lee (Caples) and Edward Phillips, Sr., and died Friday, October 24, 2014 in a local hospital. Mr. Phillips resided in Lufkin most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Lufkin Industries. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Phillips liked to fish and hunt squirrels, and he loved his dogs. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Ellen Phillips of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law, Wanda Tunnell of Huntington and Linda and Wallace Boyd of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Jeannine Phillips and Paul Ray and Billie Sue Phillips, all of Huntington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lenard Phillips; and grandparents, Alice and Andy Caples. Pallbearers will be Mike Tillar, Bud Tunnell, Bill Tillar, Vince Robinson, Wallace Boyd and Robby Williams. Memorial contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2005 Ford Chapel Road, Lufkin, Texas 75901. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
