Laverne (Thompson) Turner

Funeral services for Laverne (Thompson) Turner, 89, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Schultheis officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Turner was born April 26, 1925 in Angelina County, Texas to Alex and Gracie (Chancey) Thompson, and died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Turner was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She was a checker at Brookshire Brothers for 13 years. She enjoyed quilting and attended the quilt guild. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene. She cherished her church family and activities. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Debbie Turner of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Sherry Lowery of Lufkin and Vickie and Pat Rushing of Crockett; grandchildren, Connie Quick and husband Daniel, Stacey Lowery, all of Lufkin, Patty Roze of Houston and Leslie Omelina and husband Jason of Crockett; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, D. and Pauline Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Betty Bell of Houston; best friend, Madell Christopher of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vance P. Turner; sisters, Billie Garbakewitz and Neva Blackburn; brothers and sisters-in-law, Veachel and Elma Lee Thompson and Chancey “Chic” and Yvonne Thompson; and grandson-in-law, Leo Roze. Pallbearers will be Ricky Turner, Stacey Lowery, Jason Omelina, Daniel Quick, Pat Rushing and Chase Langford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lufkin First Church of The Nazarene, 1604 S. Medford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
