Gladys Wise Wilkerson

Funeral services for Gladys Wise Wilkerson, 93, of Hudson, will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bryan Lipscomb and Milford Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Wilkerson was born February 6, 1921 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Mittie Isabell (Mason) and William Louis Stewart. She died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at The Joseph House. Mrs. Wilkerson was retired from Pluss Tex Poultry following 30 years of service. She was also a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of Providence Baptist Church, and enjoyed traveling, playing 42, and gardening. She had lived in the Hudson/Lufkin area since 1952. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Gwendolyn and Carl Patton of Houston, Curtis and Patsy Wise of Lufkin, and Oretha and Roy Chamblee of Huntington; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Lamerle Vardeman of Nacogdoches; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her husbands, Chester Wise and Horace (Tuffy) Wilkerson. Pallbearers will be Tony Wise, Terry Wise, Troy Wise, Mark Chamblee, Craig Chamblee, and Richard Chamblee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Joseph House, P.O. Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75915. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
