Maggie Navarro Armstrong

Funeral services for Maggie Navarro Armstrong, 86, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Mills and Pastor Dewayne Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Armstrong was born April 29, 1928 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ellen May and Frank B. Navarro. She died Saturday, September 20, 2014 in a Lufkin nursing facility.

Mrs. Armstrong was retired from Temple-Inland following 20 years of service, and had lived in Lufkin all her life. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. Mrs. Armstrong loved to cook, make wedding cakes, and made the very best hot tamales. She also loved to have barbeques with family.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathie Armstrong of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jimmy Scogin of Lufkin; grandchildren, Sherry Hellwig and husband Rick, Cynthia Lawson and Gina Puryear, Jason Armstrong and wife Dawn, all of Lufkin, and Aaron Armstrong and wife Jenna of Humble; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Carman Carroll, Jo Ann Anderson and husband Thomas, and Alice Mills and husband Duane; brothers-in-law, Tommy Carver, Horace Sims, Gilbert Guerrero, and Roger Burton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ancle Armstrong; and sisters, Kitty Sims, Ruby Carver, Gracie Guerrero, and Carolyn Burton.

Pallbearers will be Jason Armstrong, Aaron Armstrong, Hubert Armstrong, Bubba Mills, James Freeman, David Armstrong, Gary Lawson, and Roger Burton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Butler, O’Neal Armstrong, Michael Lawson, Craig Lawson, and Derrick Brown.

The family extended a special thanks to Castle Pines Rehabilitation Center, Heart to Heart Hospice staff, Chaplain Bob Harbuck, and Dr. James Saxton and his staff.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
