Memorial services for Priscilla (Sowell) DuPree, 60, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Leroy Webster officiating.
Mrs. DuPree was born August 10, 1954 in San Augustine, Texas, and died Friday, October 3, 2014 at her residence.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Mrs. DuPree had numerous hobbies and interests. She was an avid bingo player, loved adventures such as her trips made on her Harley Davidson, 4-wheeling in Utah, and traveling all over the United States and abroad. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the DAV and served as their Commander on seven different occasions. In the early 2000’s, Mrs. DuPree served as the assistant director for the Miss Lufkin Pageant for two years. She loved crafting and was very good at it. She enjoyed making hot chocolate for the annual grandkids’ Christmas party. She was a very giving person, and her final gift was to donate her body to medical science.
Survivors include her husband, Donald “Gunny” DuPree of Lufkin; her children and their spouses, Christy and Darren Foreman of Lufkin, Patrick and Sarah DuPree of Dallas, Eric Abram of Cleveland, and Tim and Kerry DuPree of Jacksonville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Elizabeth and David Foreman of Lufkin, Garrick and Masina DuPree of Dallas, Colbi and Brant Abram of Lufkin, and Julie, Caleb, Trinity and Arrow DuPree of Jacksonville, North Carolina; mother, Drulene Sowell of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and John Lowther of Diboll, Brenda Hester, Linda and Phillip Gray, and Delanie Sowell, all of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Fredda Dupree of Bullard, Roger and Roma Dupree of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Tommy Gray of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Prentis Ray Sowell, and a sister, Renee Allen.
A special thanks is extended to Affinity Hospice for their care and support during her final days.
