Memorial services for Carol J. Smith-Golden “Sunshine”, 82, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Sr. Pastor D. Nick Sholars officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith-Golden was born July 11, 1932 in Houston, Texas to Carlyle and Nell (Kirtley) Wilson, and died Thursday, September 25, 2014 in a local hospital. Mrs. Smith-Golden graduated from Reagan High School in Houston. She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling. She was a member of the Lufkin First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Howard “Hal” Golden of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Joey Hemphill of Lufkin and Lisa and Bob Jones of Fairport, New York; son, Greg Smith of League City; grandchildren, Eric Hemphill and wife Amanda, Julie Hemphill, Bobby Jones and Alexander Smith; great-granddaughter, Hallie Hemphill; sister, Charlotte Jaggers of Waterloo, Alabama; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael Smith and Randy Smith; and sister, Virginia Conaway. The family extends special thanks to the staff, nurses and aides at Castle Pines and to the staff of Hospice in the Pines for their care of Mrs. Smith-Golden.
