D. Irene "Memaw" Varnell

Funeral services for D. Irene “Memaw” Varnell, 93, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Wilke officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mrs. Varnell was born October 22, 1920 in Shelby County, Texas to Isaac Nathaniel and Lula Bell (Bishop) Steele, and died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at her residence. Formerly of Center and Houston, Mrs. Varnell had resided in Lufkin for 20 years. She was a retired beautician. Mrs. Varnell was a member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Deloris Smith of Lufkin; sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Toni Varnell of Deer Park and Jim Varnell of Houston; grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Aundi Kuykendall, Dotti Varnell, Rhonda and Thomas Straughan, Suzanne Smith, Stephanie Smith, Kimberly and Jacob Guerra, and Leslie Pierce; great-grandchildren, Ashley Kuykendall, Eric Billings, Blake Arriola, Avery Billings, Brooklyne Smith, Makenzie Arriola, Conner Willett, Tyson Guerra, Cadence Guerra, Ava Straughan, and Brayden Guerra; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Cleveland Varnell; four sisters; and one brother. Pallbearers will be Greg Kuykendall, Blake Arriola, Eric Billings, Thomas Straughan, Jason Keely, Brandon Carver, and Conner Willett.
