Memorial services honoring Mary Pinkston Gibbs, 79, of Lufkin will be held Friday, October 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Max Reynolds officiating.
Mary was born March 9, 1935 in Abilene, Texas. She was the daughter of Fitzhugh Lee, Sr. and Ruby Lee Pinkston. She passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Lufkin, Texas.
After graduating from Abilene High School, Mary attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she met James Gibbs. There were married in 1955 and shared 59 treasured years together.
Mary graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Her degree defined so many of her gifts...she loved her home and was talented in decorating, entertaining graciously, cooking, sewing, creating, and tending her yard, all to perfection.
Through the years she served the community in many capacities, especially through the Lufkin Service League, now the Junior League of Lufkin. She served as President in 1972-73. She was also President of the Lufkin Lioness Club, a member of the Pine Tree Garden Club and the Ladies’ Golf Association of Crown Colony Country Club.
A long time member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, Mary served as a member of the Altar Guild for many years. She especially loved preparing the altar for the Thanksgiving season.
Mary enjoyed numerous friends, whether on the golf course, around the bridge table, at her garden club, attending her birthday clubs, or through her many travel opportunities.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Ballard Gibbs of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Karen Gibbs of Lufkin; grandsons, William Gibbs and wife Bonnie, and Thomas Gibbs, all of Lufkin; and great-grandsons, Collin and Carson Gibbs; as well as two nieces, Patty Pinkston Seabolt of Denver, Colorado and Elizabeth Pinkston of Northglenn, Colorado.
Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fitzhugh Lee Pinkston.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at PineCrest Retirement Community for their care of Mrs. Gibbs, and especially to her loving caregivers, Benita Mireles and Sharon Madden.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or the charity of your choice.
