Funeral services for Dortha Virginia Hood, 86, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Loyd Thurman officiating. Interment will follow in Largent Cemetery. Mrs. Hood was born Dortha Virginia Cundiff on March 23, 1928 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Moses L. Cundiff, Sr. and Irsa E. Davis Cundiff. She was married to James H. Hood of Sarepta, Louisiana on October 26, 1951. Mrs. Hood died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in a Lufkin hospital in the presence of family. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, providing for her family, and southern gospel music. She faithfully assisted her husband in the ministry, taught Sunday School and led the women’s ministry in the various churches they pastored together. She was a member of Victory Assembly of God Church at the time of her death. Raised in Hugo and Minden, Louisiana, she lived in the Lufkin area for more than 50 years in Diboll, Lufkin, and Hudson. Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Ruth Hood of Mesquite, David and Donna Hood of Lufkin, Richard and Darla Hood of Hudson, Phillip and Coleen Hood of Woodbury, Minnesota, Rebecca and John Ford of Rowlett, and Daniel and Vicki Hood of Round Rock; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Greer of Ben Wheeler; four brothers, Lloyd Cundiff and Charles Cundiff, both of Minden, M.L. Cundiff, Jr. and wife Peggy of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Samuel Cundiff and wife Laverne of Marshall; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years; and one sister, Jane Pearson Bland. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Andrew Corbett, Micah Corbett, Jordan Hood, Austin Hood, Sam Hood, and Trevor Hood. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: June Mitchell, Anna Hood, Trinity Hood, Jaimee Hood, and Sarah Hood. The family would like to extend thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for her in her final days.
