Funeral services for Bobby Lynn Slaughter, 61, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Forrest and Brother Alvin Quick officiating. Interment will follow in Gann Cemetery. Mr. Slaughter was born November 19, 1952 in Amarillo, Texas to the late Daisy (Brogdon) and Floyd Slaughter. He went to be with his Lord at his residence on Sunday, August 24, 2014. From the age of 11 years old, Bobby led singing for many churches that his father pastored, as well as being a member of the school choir. God gave Bobby a wonderful voice which enabled him to sing praises to Him. Bobby was a song leader for Rocky Hill Baptist Church for 15 years. Currently, he was a member of Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church where he led the singing and was a Sunday School teacher. His most enjoyable times were during vacation bible school, where he always taught music and had a good time with the kids. Bobby loved to pick and make people laugh. Bobby also worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company for 34 years. This was his second home, and he loved his job very much. Survivors include his sons, David Slaughter and Jacob Slaughter, both of Lufkin; daughters, Crystal Putnam and husband Casey, and Ashley Barnes, all of Huntington; grandchildren, Justice, Cason, Emily, Case, McKenzie, Azalea and Hazel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Kathy Slaughter of Mesa, Arizona, James and Angela Slaughter of Lufkin, and Eddie Slaughter of Kirbyville; sisters and brother-in-law, Sue and Mitch Glover of Lufkin, and Tricia Slaughter of Huntington; best friend, Leroy Hurts of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. F.R. and Daisy Slaughter. Pallbearers will be Jacob Slaughter, Leroy Hurts, James Slaughter, Eddie Slaughter, Josh Husband, Mark Husband, Casey Putnam, and Layne Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be David Slaughter, Josh Nair, Curtis Fisher, Mitch Glover, Shane Slaughter, and the men of Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1480, Huntington, Texas 75949. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
