Funeral services for Reverend L.D. Adkison, 83, of Diboll will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Leslie Wilkinson and Reverend Sherman Hoot officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Sardis Cemetery in Shelby County. Rev. Adkison was born May 17, 1931 in Pinehill, Texas to Frank and Mae (Childress) Adkison, and died Friday, August 15, 2014 in a local nursing home. Formerly of Corrigan, Rev. Adkison had resided in Diboll for 15 years. He pastored many churches in Moscow, Corrigan, Carmona, Lufkin and Belott. Rev. Adkison was a member of the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Corrigan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Adkison of Diboll; daughter-in-law, Regina Adkison of Wells; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Kate and Red Smith of Corrigan, Suzy and Don Hicks of Kennard, Patricia and Steve Berry of Hudson and Betty Jean Jones of Lufkin; grandchildren, Chris Flores and Shanna Cormier; 6 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Daniel and Doris Adkison of Corrigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Adkison; first wife, Opal Adkison; stepdaughter, Debra Castillo; and brother, B.F. Adkison. Pallbearers will be Chris Flores, B.J. Evans, Jacob McDuffie, Red Smith, Travis Bell and Ronnie Cormier. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the services.
