Bill Dickie Basham

Funeral services for Bill Dickie Basham, 77, of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Pastor Alex Montilla officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Mausoleum.

Mr. Basham was born September 15, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas to Clyde and Hattie (Allen) Basham, and died Saturday, August 16, 2014 in a local nursing home.

Mr. Basham was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. He attended Central High School where he was a pitcher for the baseball team. Mr. Basham served 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Army in the early 60’s as a missile and warhead specialist, stationed in Greece. He worked at TxDOT for 42 years as a bridge inspector and vegetation manager. He oversaw the maintenance budget for nine counties.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Rice Basham of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mickey Mixon of Bastrop and Lisa and Maurice Gartman of Katy; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his riding partner, Cricket.

He was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Ernest “Slick” Basham.

Honorary pallbearers will be retirees of TxDOT, neighbors, friends, and relatives.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
