Funeral services for Linda Ann Dorsett, 56, of Nacogdoches, will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher and Pastor Homer Murray officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Linda Ann “Linda” Dorsett died on July 6, 2014 at Queen’s Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii, while on vacation. Linda was born on October 27, 1957. She grew up in Lufkin and attended Lufkin schools, graduating from Lufkin High School in 1975. Linda was a Baylor Bear, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1979. Linda spent the early years of her career at Temple-Inland in Diboll in the public relations department. Linda, as did her two brothers, grew up attending the First Baptist Church in Lufkin. She sang in the children’s choirs and up through the different church choirs there, except while attending Baylor. Linda loved music and began piano in her elementary years under the teaching of Mrs. Hampton Keathley. She played piano as a substitute for several Sunday school departments at F.B.C. and later at various churches. As an adult, Linda became a master organist and also substituted for regular church organists, both here in Lufkin and in Nacogdoches, when they couldn’t play for a service. Linda truly exemplified the life of a Christian. She loved her fellow man and had a huge heart for all, but especially for those in need. Linda, needless to say, loved music, especially Christian music, including gospel groups. She still played the piano prior to her passing. She was also a very avid reader, especially her Bible. Linda was also an excellent cook, having first learned from her mother, Eunice; but also routinely enjoyed trying new recipes and having friends and family over to try new dishes. Linda loved all children, especially her niece and nephews. She was looking forward to going to College Station after she returned from vacation to play with her great nephew, Thomas Edward Dorsett. Linda’s career ranged from Journalism at T.I. to the Bryan School District. Upon completing her Masters at Stephen F. Austin University, she taught English at Angelina College, Lufkin High School, and Stephen F. Austin University. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Garrison, and Brother Homer Murray was her pastor. Linda is survived by her brother, Jim David Dorsett; nephew, John David Dorsett; niece, Susan Dorsett Carnley; nephew, Phillip Edward Dorsett and wife Lauren of College Station; great nephew, Thomas Edward Dorsett of College Station; and a host of other relatives and friends. Linda was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Hubert “Ed” Dorsett; her parents, Hubert C. Dorsett and Eunice (Sisk) Dorsett; and grandparents, Chapman and Hester Dorsett, and Oscar and Emma Sisk. Memorial contributions in Linda’s name may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be added at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com.
