Funeral services for Shirley White, 73, of Humble, will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ralph Salinas and Brother Floyd Loven officiating. Interment will follow in Ryan Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. White was born February 2, 1941 in Diboll, Texas to the late Ruth (Fox) and Moody Smith, Sr. She died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. White graduated from Diboll High School in 1959, moved to Houston until 1987, and then returned to Diboll. A loving and devoted mother, wife and sister, she also served young children and their families as an early childhood educator and director. She was a director and regional director for LaPetite Academy for the first 23 years of her career in the Houston area. In 1987, Mrs. White was offered her “dream job” as director of the Katherine Sage Temple Child Care Center in her hometown of Diboll, Texas. There she remained for the next 27 years, serving the children of Angelina County. Mrs. White expanded care and oversaw KST Child Care Center, doubling its size to care for even more children. Mrs. White also served on Angelina County’s CASA Advisory Board and taught early childhood development courses at Angelina College. Recently, she became a published author of a children’s book. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, playing 42, sewing, and casino games. Mrs. White attended Suburban Woods Baptist Church. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda Ruth Myers, Larry Randall “Randy” White, Lisa Maddux and husband Douglas, and Ron White and wife Betty; grandchildren, Joanna Danielle White, Rhey Nolan Myers, Madison Ruth Ann Maddux, and Trey Maddux; great grandchildren, Janna White and Clay White; sisters, Pam Jones and husband Ken, and Betty Sue Lynch; brothers, Moody Smith, Jr. and wife Debra, Terry Clayton White, and Gary Mike Smith and wife Susan; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Henry Swallows, Joe Gothard, Bubba Smith, Tommy Brown, Waylon Brown, Trey Maddux, and Rhey Myers. Memories and condolences may be added at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com.
