John Calvin Poole

December 15, 1925 — July 3, 2014

Funeral services for John Calvin Poole, 88, of The Woodlands and Zavalla will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Fr. Francis O’Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.

Mr. Poole was born December 15, 1925 in Lindale, Texas, and died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at his residence in The Woodlands. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and retired from Shell Oil following 35 years of employment. Mr. Poole was a member of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department and also served as Fire Marshall for Deer Park. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Mauer of The Woodlands, Kathy and Walter Broome of Cypress and Melinda and Brian Sullivan of Canyon Lake; granddaughters, Rachel Black and husband Shilo of Spring and Paige Stevens and husband R.J. of Endicott, New York; great-granddaughter, Sunny Black of Spring; great-grandson, James Stevens of Endicott, New York; sister, Maxine Holloway of Houston; uncle, Woodrow Watts, age 102, of Palestine; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Poole; mother, Sadie Pyle Poole; parents, Virgie and E.J. Watts; and brother, Hermon Poole.

The family extends special thanks to caregivers Kathy Ruprecht, Rene Davis and Sommer Miller.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
