Funeral services for DeLois Sunday Odom, 80, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Blackie Cranford and Charles Burks officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Odom was born September 11, 1933 in Crockett, Texas to Luther and Gladys (Collins) Sunday. She took the hand of her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 8, 2014.

Mrs. Odom married Robert N. Odom in Willis, Texas March 1, 1958. She retired from Chase Bank in Houston in 1992 and moved to Lufkin in 1997. She was an inspiration to many, even with the great pain she carried. She always had a caring heart and a cheerful smile that would light up a room. She was an active member of Chestnut Drive Baptist Church. Mrs. Odom was like a grandmother to Jenny Tankersley. Katie Tankersley’s cat Sadie made Mrs. Odom’s home her home.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert N. Odom of Lufkin; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Jerre Barron of League City and Tamie Long of Lufkin; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Kirk Odom, U.S. Army and wife Bridget of North Carolina, Chris Cook and wife Krystale, Jeff Cook, all of La Porte, Shanna Criss and husband Brian of La Marque, Neal Long of Dickinson, Blake Odom of Huntsville, Brenley Odom of Groveton, McKinsey Criss and Jacob Criss, both of La Marque; brother, Gene Sunday of Frankewing, Tennessee; stepsisters, Lynne Hastings of Shepherd and Bertha Burson of Conroe; stepbrother, Buddy Stowe of Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Sunday Horton; and father Luther Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Odom, Michael Odom, Chris Cook, Jeff Cook, Neal Long and James Luce.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
