Sammy Lovejoy

Funeral services for Sammy Lovejoy, 73, of Hudson, will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Barry Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Sammy was born September 5, 1940 in Rockdale, Texas to the late Samuel Lovejoy and Dorothy Bell Lovejoy. He passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Sammy was a 1959 graduate of Central High School and was a member of the Texas National Guard, Company A, 386th Engineering Battalion. He resided in the Hudson community for 40 years and owned and operated Sammy’s Minit Mart and Auto Parts and Lovejoy Trailer Park. Sammy also served as a Reserve Angelina County Sheriff Deputy for a number of years.

Sammy married Mary Jean Ray on August 31, 1963, and was the father of two children. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting with the members of his community. He liked being outdoors and raising cows.

Sammy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jean Lovejoy of Hudson; daughter, Shanna Brasher of Hudson; son, Shane Lovejoy and wife Zoie of Hudson; four grandchildren, Daniel Lovejoy, Luke Lovejoy, Brendon Brasher and Brittney Brasher, all of Hudson; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Ronald Womack of Hudson; sister, Clasina Watson of Conroe; brothers, Jesse Lovejoy and Alton Lovejoy, both of Hudson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Freddy Williamson, Judy and Bobby Hill, all of Lufkin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Laurie Lovejoy.

Pallbearers will be Laurie Dean Watson, Adam Williamson, Jason Kelly, Alton Lovejoy, Jr., Daniel Lovejoy, and Brendon Brasher.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
