James H. Hood

Funeral services for Reverend James H. Hood, 86, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Clawson Assembly of God Church with Reverend Kevin Pogue, Reverend Roger Lewis and Reverend Loyd Thurman officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.

Reverend Hood was born December 20, 1927 in Sarepta, Louisiana to Lawrence R. and Florence (McCann) Hood. He passed from this life to his Heavenly reward Monday, May 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Reverend Hood married Dortha Virginia Cundiff October 26, 1951 in Minden, Louisiana. They were married for 62 wonderful years and raised six children. He was ordained to the ministry in 1955 and was a member of the North Texas District of the Assemblies of God and the General Council of the Assemblies of God. He served as pastor of churches in Vivian, Homer, and Haynesville, Louisiana and also Diboll and Lufkin, Texas. He touched countless lives through his ministry.

Reverend Hood was an avid gardener and loved to read prophecy books and do crossword puzzles. He enjoyed fishing as long as they were “biting good”. He mostly loved spending time with all of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hood of Lufkin; daughters, Ruth Hood of Mesquite and Rebecca Ford and husband John of Rowlett; sons, David Hood and wife Donna, Richard Hood and wife Darla, all of Lufkin, Phillip Hood and wife Coleen of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Daniel Hood and wife Vicki of Pflugerville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Doy Hood and wife Marie of Sarepta, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Andrew Corbett, Micah Corbett, Jordan Hood, Austin Hood, Sam Hood and Trevor Hood.

Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters: June Mitchell, Anna Hood, Trinity Hood, Jaimee Hood and Sarah Hood.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Assemblies of God Benevolent Association, 1445 N. Boonville Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65802, or online at www.agba.ag.org, or to a charity of your choice.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
