Thurman Teer, 83, of Lufkin, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in a Tyler hospital. He was born September 23, 1930 in Pennington, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Teer was retired after working more than 50 years as a barber. He graduated from the Roffler Barber School with honors. He loved fishing, birdwatching, and anything that involved the outdoors. Mr. Teer was also an ordained Baptist minister, and had been very involved in his church, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Hudson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had been a resident of Lufkin most of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye Teer of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Joe Paul and Shay Teer of Tyler; grandsons, Joe Paul Teer, Jr. of Austin and Grady Teer of Tyler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman and Sarah Teer of Conroe, Joe and Jane Teer of Trinity, and Clayton Teer of Anderson; sisters and brother-in-law, Alouise and R.L. Dyke of Houston, Katie Harrison of Ada, Oklahoma, and Edna Padgett of Houston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Teer was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie (Collins) and Joe Benjamin Teer, and a sister, Ruthie Bennett.
