Joan Herold Hanger

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Joan Herold Hanger, 88, of Lufkin will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church Lufkin with Reverend Stephen Lantis officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hanger passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in Lufkin. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Joe and Cleo Herold August 26, 1925. She was a retired secretary and a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Mrs. Hanger was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), first in Dallas as a child and young adult, then in Winnsboro, Tyler, Crockett and Lufkin. One of her greatest joys was attending and working tirelessly in the church with the Christian Women’s Fellowship organization, visiting shut-ins, or wherever the need was to glorify God. She also volunteered at Love, Inc. as a service to others.

She is survived by her daughter, Debby Ainsworth and husband Jerry of Lufkin; son, Bob Hanger and wife Paula of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Melanie Yates and husband Kevin of Grapeland, Jeff Ainsworth of Lufkin, Russell Ainsworth of Cathedral City, California, Josh Hanger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jodie Borah and husband Chris of Corpus Christi, John Paul Hanger and wife Jenny of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Julianne Holland of Edmond, Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Johnathon Borah of Corpus Christi. She was very proud of her family and loved them dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Cleo Herold.
