Roy Lee Hunt

February 27, 1930 — May 2, 2014

Funeral services for Roy Lee Hunt, 84, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Eastview United Pentecostal Church with Reverend Rick Martin and Reverend Kelly Havard officiating. Private family graveside services will follow later.

Mr. Hunt died Friday, May 2, 2014 in a Lufkin nursing facility. He was born in Davy, West Virginia on February 27, 1930. He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Hunt; his mother, Bettie Prillman Hunt; and his wife, Jo Hunt.

Roy loved squirrel hunting in the hills of West Virginia and fishing in New River. After he moved to Texas, he enjoyed fishing in Lake Summerville, Lake Livingston, and Lake Conroe.

While living in West Virginia, he worked as a coalminer for approximately fifteen years. And, the last time we checked, he still held the record for loading over 100 coal cars in an eight-hour shift. In 1962, he moved his family to Houston, Texas. He was the maintenance engineer of River Oaks Country Club until his retirement in 1995. He attended Abundant Life Church in Willis. His hobbies were playing pool and fixing things; and his love was his family. His kindness and integrity will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Luetta Hunt of Pollok, and Ray and Eloise Hunt of Houston. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Hunt, Dana Walker, Brian Hughes, Braiden Hughes, Joe Fellman, and Ryan Barfield.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at Eastview United Pentecostal Church.
