Memorial services for John Paul Spencer, 71, of Pollok will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Pollok Baptist Church with Brother Keith Bickley officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Spencer was born August 24, 1942 in Cooper, Texas to John W. and Dorothy Marie (O’Quinn) Spencer, and passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Spencer was a U.S. Army Captain, serving from April 1968 - April 1971. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, Masters Degree from Kansas State University, and a PHD from Texas A&M University, all in entomology. He was an Entomologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His hobbies included flower gardening and growing trees. He also enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds. Mr. Spencer was a member of Pollok Baptist Church.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Holly Spencer and Keith and Kathy Spencer, all of Pollok; sister and brother-in-law, Madelen and Benny Franco of Baytown; nephews and spouses, Zack and Beverly Spencer of Lufkin, Nick and Misti Spencer, Tyson Spencer and fiancée Natalie Dennis, all of Pollok, Michael and Laura Spencer of Katy, and Jeremy and Brooke Franco of Wallisville; nieces, Lacey Spencer of Lufkin and Jessica Spencer of Pollok; uncles and aunts, John Riley and Jeanette O’Quinn of Pollok and Clyde and Jane O’Quinn of Huntington; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Aimee Spencer.
