Funeral services for Dwayne L. Pruett, 68, of Lufkin will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gene Hazell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens in Cleveland.
Mr. Pruett went to Heaven Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at The Joseph House located in Lufkin. He was born in San Antonio, Texas November 8, 1945. He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Pruett, Sr. and mother, Etta Lee (Allen) Pruett.
Mr. Pruett was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War, 1966-1968. He started his career in law enforcement working in Fingerprints in Austin as a civilian. He entered the Department of Public Safety Academy in 1980. During his years at the Department of Public Safety, he worked as part of the Governor’s Security Detail, State Trooper, Sgt. Investigator of Motor Vehicle Theft, Special Ranger, and Vehicle Inspection. He retired in 2003, but missed work so much he returned and worked until his illness forced him to stop in 2012. He enjoyed serving and caring for others during his 38 ½ years of service. Through the years he was recognized for service and achievements relating to his job.
Mr. Pruett’s greatest achievement was made in December 2011 when he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He became a member of Fairview Baptist Church, serving on the Safety Committee and the mowing team.
Mr. Pruett will be remembered as a gentleman, a man of integrity, honesty, and service. He was an animal lover and always had cats and dogs in his life. He loved tinkering with his old car, a 1932 Ford Coupe, attending Rod Runs, visiting with car enthusiasts and spending time in his little haven, the garage. He will truly be missed by family and many friends.
Mr. Pruett is survived by his beloved soul mate and wife of fifteen years, Gay Lynn Pruett; stepdaughter, Stasia and husband Jesse Marroquin, sons Anthony and Aaron of Atascocita; and stepdaughter, Amanda Santos of Huntsville; brother and sister-in-law, William A. Pruett, Jr. and Anneliese Pruett, nephew, Sven Pruett, nieces, Desiree Pruett and Sibonnet Pruett-Kopp of Lake Orion, Michigan; sister-in-law, Midge Lee and nephews, Steve Cooney and Christopher Cooney; special adopted family, Marlon and Jean Register of Lufkin; along with Dwayne’s special four legged fur babies, Crazy Sadie, Izzie, and Slick.
Pallbearers will be Jim Huggins, Warren Kirkland, Randy Minshew, Greg Sanches, Tom Selman, and Johnny Clack.
The family would like to send special thanks to family friend and caregiver, Terry Jo Vanwinkle, the staff of The Joseph House, Affinity Hospice, Lufkin DPS, Lufkin Police Department, and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Department.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
