Franklin Harvey Matchett

Funeral services for Franklin Harvey Matchett, 81, of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ora Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Bill Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Shofner Cemetery.

Mr. Matchett was born March 7, 1933 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Margaret (Lynn) and William Dewey Matchett. He died Monday, April 7, 2014 in a Huntington nursing facility.

Most recently, Mr. Matchett was the maintenance supervisor at Parkwood Nursing Home for 10 years. He spent most of his working career in the logging industry, and was also known as the maintenance man at Hanks Creek Marina. Mr. Matchett served his country in the United States Navy. He was of the Baptist faith and had lived in Angelina County all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Ola Marie Matchett of Lufkin; his children, Jerry Matchett and wife Patricia of Huntington, Janet Williams and husband Patrick of Lufkin, Teresa Ann Matchett Kees of Denison, Brandie Richard and husband Jeff of Shreveport, and David Curtis Aldredge and partner Perry Richey of Carthage; brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Leona Matchett of Lufkin; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Matchett was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Franklin Harvey Matchett, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Lee, Wendell Hightower, Rabbit Griffith, David C. Aldredge, Perry Richey, Jeremiah Gavette, Mike Matchett, and Wesley Matchett.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 noon until service time at Ora Missionary Baptist Church located on FM 2109, approximately 7 miles south of Huntington.
