William J. "Bill" Schaffer

Mass of Christian Burial for William J. “Bill” Schaffer, 81, of Apple Springs will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Francis O’Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Schaffer was born May 24, 1932 in Cullman, Alabama to John and Maggie (Bauer) Schaffer, and died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his residence.

Formerly of Channelview, Mr. Schaffer had resided in Apple Springs for 23 years. He worked as a machinist and die maker for American Can Company and was the owner of Schaffer Precision Machine Shop. Mr. Schaffer was a member of the I.A.M. Union Local Lodge #12 in Houston, and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Schaffer was known for his love of his family, his enjoyment of hunting and his strong work ethic. His willingness to help others did not go unnoticed and he will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Schaffer of Apple Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Larry Newland of Dayton, Patricia and Dan Marquis of Owensboro, Kentucky, Carol and Clayton Greenwood of Kalispell, Montana, and Cathleen Rowe of Apple Springs; son, David Schaffer of Apple Springs; granddaughters, Jessica Greenwood of Channelview, Laura Newland of Dayton and Chelsea Dickens of Humble; grandsons, Justin Greenwood and fiancée Katie of Houston, Chris Newland of Dayton, Josh Marquis of Evansville, Indiana, Cory Rowe and wife Katy of Groveton, Travis Greenwood of Channelview, Brian Marquis of Louisville, Kentucky, Keaton Rowe, Seth Schaffer, both of Apple Springs, and John Schaffer of Hudson; great-granddaughters, Isabell Mendez, Kayla Mendez, both of Dayton and Kyla Rowe of Groveton; sister, Francis Snyder of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers, Fred Schaffer of Chicago, Illinois, Martin Schaffer and wife Stella of Summerfield, Florida, Raymond Schaffer and wife Mary, and Herbert Schaffer and wife Jo, all of Cullman, Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John M. Schaffer October 7, 2002; and sister, Marie Schaffer.

Pallbearers will be Justin Greenwood, Chris Newland, Travis Greenwood, Keaton Rowe, Seth Schaffer and John Schaffer.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home, prior to the Rosary.
