Myrtle Morine Getro

Funeral services for Myrtle Morine Getro, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.

Mrs. Getro was born March 21, 1923 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to Gus and Sallie Ophew (Chris) Byrd, and died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in a local nursing home.

A former resident of Dallas and Nacogdoches, Mrs. Getro had resided in Lufkin for 24 years. She worked at Fred’s Bar-B-Que in Dallas for 20 years. Mrs. Getro enjoyed traveling and watching westerns, especially old Gene Autry movies. She loved country, bluegrass and gospel music. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her stepsons and daughters-in-law, James and Lynn Getro and Gordan and Virgie Getro, all of Lufkin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.F. Getro; son, Michael Overall; brothers; Tony Byrd and Wilbur Byrd; and great-grandson, Zachary Stepherson.

Pallbearers will be Scott Getro, Jamie Getro, Brandon Getro, Lary Bizzell, Jacob Justus and Steve Knight.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
