Alliene Snowden Glidden, 86, of Lufkin, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at The Joseph House. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014 at Carroway Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery in Huntington.
Mrs. Glidden was born July 21, 1927 in Huntington, Texas to the late Sereta Lowery Snowden Andolics and Bud Snowden. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. She served in the ministry alongside her husband, Reverend George W. Glidden, for 48 years. She loved to save her money and secretly purchase things for the church and was constantly giving monies to single women and widows that were in need. She was very knowledgeable of God’s word and loved to teach women’s Sunday school classes. She lived by the motto of “Here I am, Dear Lord, please use me.” Mrs. Glidden’s favorite song was “It Is Well With My Soul,” and it could be heard all through the house as she sang it regularly, especially when she was washing dishes. She was a member of Fuller Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Glidden and her husband moved to the Neches House, an assisted living center in Lufkin, on September 1, 2009, where they made many new friends. After her husband’s death and continual failing health, she moved to The Joseph House as the first occupant of this new “end of life care facility.” This facility, along with Heart to Heart Hospice, gave her support and loving care during the last months of her Journey here on earth.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Glidden was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Dianne and Don Crager, and Neva and Don Brown, all of Lufkin; grandsons and their spouses, John and Becky Jerke, Troy Jerke, and Chad and Kim Ogden; great grandchildren, Trent Jerke, Katelyn Jerke, Lauryn Jerke, Skyler Jerke, and Carter Ogden.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Betty Agers, April, Amy, Dr. Jenkins, and the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, and the staff of The Joseph House, Denise, Terry Jo, Paula, Christy, Whitney, and Sherry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Joseph House, P.O. Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75915.
