Funeral services for Ineda “Neta” LeSassier, 93 , of Huntington, will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery.
Neta was born November 1, 1920 in Marlin, Texas to the late Edna (Jones) and D.B. “Bryan” Byrd. She died Friday, March 21, 2014, in a Lufkin hospice facility.
Neta lived in Huntington most of her life. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin, Neta began a teaching career. She taught in Shawnee Prairie, Huntington, Herty, than back to Huntington where she retired as Librarian. Along with teaching, she and husband, Stewart, owned and operated “The Hilltop Café” for a number of years.
Neta opened “Neta’s Quilts & Things,” a quilt, fabric and gift shop, which she enjoyed every day for almost 30 years. She enjoyed meeting people and has many friends she made during those years. She was a member of Huntington First Baptist Church.
Neta is survived by a daughter, Ann Blanton of Lufkin; a grandson, Gary Burgess of Kansas City, Missouri; two great grandsons, Ben Burgess of Austin and Sam Burgess of The Woodlands; sister-in-law, Jean LeSassier of Beaumont; niece and nephew, Michelle and Mickey Bean of Beaumont; close friends, Nelda Hancock and Peggy Lawrence; and her friend and protector, her puppy, Bentley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart LeSassier, and son-in-law, Zane Blanton.
The family thanks Hospice in the Pines for their loving care – Katy, Carlita and Yvette in her home care, and Frank, Teresa, Stephanie, and Thaffe at the hospital. Thank you, also, Mary Rumby, her caregiver.
Pallbearers will be Clark Bewley, Dwayne Turner, Rex Lowery, Billy Porter, Denny Porter, and Ted Ivy.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
