Funeral services for Merritt Ivy, 83, of Huntington will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Richard Westbrook officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery.
Mr. Ivy was born September 25, 1930 in Huntington, Texas to Daniel Montgomery and Alva Banks (Luckey) Ivy, and died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Ivy resided in Angelina County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Champion Paper Mill. Mr. Ivy was a coach in the Lufkin Youth Baseball Association in the 60s and 70s. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a passionate courthouse domino player.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Janet Ivy and David Lynn and Ann Ivy, all of Nacogdoches; daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Danny Tullos of Apple Springs and La Wana and Ricky Parks of Jasper; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Keith and Angie Ivy and Rex and Betty Ivy, all of Huntington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy Ray and Jane Westbrook of Gilmer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda Nell and Cotton Jones of Diana; cousins, Ben Davis and Ruby Ivy, both of California; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Barbara Westbrook Ivy; granddaughter, Tiffany Ivy; and grandson, Daniel Craig Ivy.
Pallbearers will be Roger Parks, Justin Parks, Danny Tullos, Rick Parks, Steve Ivy and Army Spc. Matthew Ivy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Jones, Tim Click, Jake Cox and Jesse Cox.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
