L.V. "Mimi" Cook

Funeral services for L.V. “Mimi” Cook, 90, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Joe Stanley and Reverend Josh Reneau officiating. Interment will follow in Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook was born December 3, 1923 in the Rocky Hill Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Oma Chapman (Grant) and Ephraim Lafayette Burns. She died Sunday, February 23, 2014 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She grew up in the Rocky Hill Community and has lived in Lufkin most of her life. Mrs. Cook loved gardening and flowers, and she loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joyce Russell McDaniel of Lufkin, Wayne and Sandy Cook of Wells, and Marilyn and Jimmy Lynch of Rocky Hill; grandchildren, Kelly Russell, Donna Mathis, Stacey Thompson, Jerry Cook, and Brittiany Lynch; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Breazeale of Lufkin, Mary Ann Temple, and Elsie Pelton, both of Huntington; brother, Bobby Burns of Rocky Hill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives;

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Salty Cook; two granddaughters, Kristina and Karyn Russell; great grandson, Michael Thompson; sons-in-law, Sammy Attaway, Douglas Russell and Rebert McDaniel; sisters, Maerene Graham and Reba King; and brother, Roy Burns.

Pallbearers will be Koty Russell, Logan Cook, Kirk Mathis, Hugh Graham, Mike Pelton and Floyd King.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, East Texas Regional Office, 304 N. Raguet St., Suite C, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family extends their thanks to Sandra Esparza, Tiffany Young and Connie Windsor, for being special friends and caregivers of Mimi.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
