Funeral services for Gilmore C. Cox, 81, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Cox was born February 14, 1933 in Lufkin, Texas to Doyle B. and Linnie Mae (Cotton) Cox, and died Monday, February 17, 2014 in a local hospital.

Mr. Cox was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Pressman at Southwest Color for 30 years. He was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M., the Lufkin Noon Lions Club, and the VFW. Mr. Cox volunteered at the Adult Learning Center, VA Medical Center, and the Z&OO Railroad at Ellen Trout Zoo for the Lions Club, whose locomotive was named after him. He was a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marye Cox of Lufkin; son, Gilmore F. Cox of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Deidra and Michael Kitchens of Lufkin and granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Heather and Brandon Love of Pueblo West, Colorado, Melanie and Anthony Buster of Byers, Colorado, Casie and Garrett Nugent of Lufkin and Tara Williams of Pueblo West, Colorado; daughter, Lori Leigh Knutson of Santa Fe and granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Sunny and James Jones of Alvin and Taylor Knutson of Houston; 10 great-grandchildren; and cousin, Hester Eddins of Lufkin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt and uncle, Florence and Buck Zeagler.

Pallbearers will be Greg Johnson, Reece Hubbard, Malcolm Ray, Garrett Nugent, Cody Jones and Anthony Buster.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, 106 E. Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
