Funeral services for Charles A. Smithhart, 80, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gene Elrod officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Smithhart was born October 9, 1933 in Angelina County, Texas to the late James E. “Ed” and Geneva (Parrish) Smithhart, and died Sunday, February 16, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Smithhart was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. He served in the U.S. Army and was a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. Mr. Smithhart was a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. and the NARFE. He was a volunteer at the Adult Learning Center. He served as Deacon at three local churches and was a member of Herty Baptist Church. He currently attended Keltys First Baptist Church. Mr. Smithhart was a passionate reader of books that increased his knowledge of the Bible as well as history. He especially loved sharing the information he had read with others.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Sue (Golden) Smithhart of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Chyrll Smithhart of Latexo; daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Jeff Hobbs of Atlanta, Texas and Tricia and Jay Jelinek of Lufkin; grandchildren, Julie Smithhart, Lindsey Tobias and husband J.C., Seth Smithhart, Cole Bolton, Blacey Bolton, Preston Jelinek, Peyton Jelinek and Robert Hobbs; great-grandchildren, Hunter Channel, Madalie Smithhart and Abigail Tobias; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Jo Ann Smithhart of Lufkin; special nieces, Beverly Kendrick and husband Gerald and Phyllis Carlton and husband Terry; sisters-in-law, Lordel Golden and Virginia Golden, both of Lufkin; special friend, J.C. Havard of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Seth Smithhart, Cole Bolton, J.C. Tobias, Trey Golden, Lester Golden and Lynn Golden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Woods, the Friendship Sunday School Class at Herty Baptist Church, and members of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
