Funeral services for Larry Parten, 67, of Lufkin, Texas will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Jim McDonald and Kyle Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.
Mr. Parten was born May 11, 1946 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to Iline (Spradlin) and Edmon “Buster” Parten, and died Friday, February 14, 2014 in a local hospital.
Formerly of Paragould, Arkansas, Mr. Parten had resided in Lufkin since 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. Parten worked for Walmart for 20 years before retiring in 1994. He then opened The UPS Store in 1996, which he has owned and operated ever since. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Parten of Lufkin, Texas; daughters, Kacy Read and husband Jeremy of Lufkin, Texas, Tracii New and fiancé Todd Adams of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Stacy Risner and husband Alton of Lufkin, Texas and Lanea Blagburn of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandsons, Hunter New of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Trey Risner of Spring, Texas; granddaughters, Alyssa Risner of Spring, Texas, Keelie Wuelling of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Jyntri Read of Lufkin, Texas; great-grandsons, Madoxx Barber and Sebastian Wuelling, both of Jonesboro, Arkansas; sister, Linda Lenderman and husband Homer of Brookland, Arkansas; brothers, Theodore Parten and wife Sharon of Paragould, Arkansas, Jim Parten and wife Ruth of Lakewood, Colorado, Ronnie Parten and Donald Parten and wife Paula, all of Pocahontas, Arkansas; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, William “Bill” Parten, and sisters, Nancy Chastain, Brenda Oxford and husband Richard, and Lisa Kincade.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
