Mary Cecil Bowers

Funeral services for Mary Cecil Bowers, 97, of Lufkin will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clayton McClendon and Chaplain Bob Harbuck officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bowers was born January 16, 1917 in Appleby, Nacogdoches County, Texas to Ben and Susan (Clifton) Bell, and died Thursday, January 30, 2014.

Mrs. Bowers was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a resident at Castle Pines Nursing Home at the time of her death. Prior to that she was the owner of Bowers Mobile Home Park for 60 years, beginning in 1964. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and working in her yard. She loved bingo and arts and crafts, and helping others during her time at the nursing home.

Survivors include her daughter, Pat Wilz of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jeff Thompson, Jon Patrick Flournoy, both of Lufkin, and Sgt. Kenneth Flournoy, Jr. (currently stationed in Afghanistan) and wife Nicole of Spanaway, Washington; great-grandchildren, Tyler Thompson, River Thompson and Josh Jones, all of Lufkin, Wayne, Wendi, Weston, Wynter and Jackie Flournoy, all of Washington; and great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Bailee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rube Bowers; and son, Judge R.G. Bowers, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Bell, Ronnie Finch, Bryan Finch, Mike Lovelace, Jesse Lovejoy and Josh Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Lovejoy, Alton Ray Lovejoy, Carl Easley, Wesley Bowers and Lynn Hearn.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or Heart to Heart Hospice, 209 Christie Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for the care given to Mrs. Bowers.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
