James (Jim) Lester Athey, Jr.

Memorial services for James (Jim) Lester Athey, Jr., 68, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Denman Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Jeff Moats and Brother Kevin Roy officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Athey was born September 18, 1945 in Conroe, Texas to the late Velma Inez (Matthews) and James Athey, Sr. He died Saturday, January 25, 2014 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Athey was a retired Director of Administrative Services for TxDot following 32 years of service. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Sam Houston State University. Mr. Athey liked to travel and loved going to concerts and musical events. He was a longtime member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Athey of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Scott Feaster of Lufkin; daughter, Jennifer Williams of Coldspring; grandsons, Tommy Cole, Mason Feaster, both of Lufkin, and James Williams and Josh Williams, both of Coldspring; as well as numerous other family members.

Mr. Athey was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, David Matthews.
