Annie Mae "Ann" Stanford

Funeral services for Annie Mae “Ann” Stanford, 94, of Winnie, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Walter Futch officiating. Interment will follow in the Pollok Cemetery.

Mrs. Stanford was born December 3, 1919 in Corrigan, Texas to the late Nora (Black) and Mikel Dixon Deggs. She died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at a Winnie nursing facility.

Mrs. Stanford was a homemaker and a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had also worked as a waitress at Beam’s Café and K-Bob’s Restaurant. Mrs. Stanford enjoyed playing bingo, walking, and watching soap operas on TV. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and had also been active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. A resident of Lufkin for most of her life, she had lived in Winnie for the past three years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Steward of Nome; son-in-law, John Durham; grandsons and grandddaughter-in-law, Mike Cates of Lufkin, Ronnie and Hope Durham of Pollok; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jacie and Jayme Cates, all of Lufkin, Kelby and Summer Durham of Pollok; special friends, Melva McClendon and Rhonda Cates, both of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Stanford was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Mary Ann Durham; sister, Opal Tindall; brothers, J.T. Deggs, Melvin Deggs and Junior Deggs; and sisters-in-law, Marie Deggs and Katherine Deggs.

Pallbearers will be Larry Byars, Jody Clowers, Bill Tindall, John Durham, Gregg Durham and Justin Cates.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
